ERIKA BEZERRA PARENTE

Erika Bezerra Parente is a medical doctor with more than 20 years of experience in clinical
practice in diabetes, obesity, and metabolic diseases. She was an assistant professor of
endocrinology at Faculdade de Ciências Ciências Médicas da Santa Casa de São Paulo, in São
Paulo, Brazil. Her PhD was about the effects of a high-fat or a high-carbohydrate diet on
intramyocellular fat and was performed at Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo,
in São Paulo, Brazil where she also did her medical residency in internal medicine and
endocrinology. From 2020 to 2024, she was a Senior Researcher at Folkhälsan Research Center,
in Helsinki, Finland, and a visitor researcher at Helsinki University. Since February 2024, she has
been a Senior Global Medical Advisor for Obesity and MASH at Boehringer Ingelheim, Germany.
She has published several papers regarding type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes, and obesity,
especially regarding body fat distribution and diabetes complications.
